Guide · Meta Business Agent vs WhatsApp CRM
Meta Business Agent vs a WhatsApp CRM — what each one does, what each one costs, and why most teams end up with both.
Meta launched its own AI agent for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram on 3 June 2026 and started billing it by the token on 1 August. Since then the most common question we get from buyers is "do I still need a WhatsApp CRM?" The short answer: the Business Agent answers customers; a CRM is where your team works the leads after the answer. This guide separates the two with Meta's published facts, not opinion.
The 30-second answer
They solve different problems. One answers; the other manages.
What Meta Business Agent is
Meta's AI that replies to customers on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram in their language: business-specific answers, catalogue recommendations, appointment booking, lead qualification, and a handoff to a human on conditions you set. Launched globally 3 June 2026; over a million businesses used earlier versions.
What a WhatsApp CRM is
Software on the WhatsApp Business API where your team works: one shared number, an owner on every conversation, pipeline stages, follow-up templates, attribution from the ad click to the closed deal, and two-way sync with the CRM you already run.
What each costs
Business Agent: $2 per million tokens from 1 August 2026, which Meta says is roughly 4–5 cents per typical message, bundling AI and delivery. Smaller businesses get it through WhatsApp Business Premium tiers. Go4whatsup Standard: $39 a month flat with AI replies included; Meta's per-message charges passed through at cost.
Do you need both?
If one person answers from one phone, the Business Agent alone may be enough. If more than one person follows up, you run Click-to-WhatsApp ads, or you need to know which rep owns which lead, you need the CRM, with or without Meta's agent in front of it.

The money
What 3,000 AI-handled replies a month costs on each.
Meta's guidance: a typical message can use up to 25,000 tokens, so $2 per million tokens works out to roughly 4–5 cents per message, with message delivery bundled in. For a WhatsApp CRM on the API, Meta's per-message fees apply separately: from 1 October 2026 each number gets 1,000 free Service replies a month, then the country's Utility rate, plus a 7% surcharge for accounts not on MM Lite.
| 3,000 replies / month | Go4whatsup Standard | Meta Business Agent |
|---|---|---|
| Business in the UAE | $39 + 2,000 × $0.017898 = $35.80 + 7% ($2.51) = $77.31 | 3,000 × 4–5¢ = $120–$150 |
| Business in India | $39 + 2,000 × $0.001596 = $3.19 + 7% ($0.22) = $42.41 | 3,000 × 4–5¢ = $120–$150 |
| Business in Saudi Arabia | $39 + 2,000 × $0.012198 = $24.40 + 7% ($1.71) = $65.11 | 3,000 × 4–5¢ = $120–$150 |
Go4whatsup figures use Meta's published per-message Utility rates and the 1,000 free Service messages. Business Agent figures use Meta's own "4 to 5 cents per message" guidance; a short answer uses fewer tokens, a long one more. Small businesses on WhatsApp Business Premium tiers may pay differently; Meta has not published those tiers. Full 1 October 2026 rate table and estimator →
Which one, when
Three situations, three honest answers.
One person, one phone, mostly questions
A café, a salon, a single-owner shop answering "are you open" and "do you have this in blue". The Business Agent on the WhatsApp Business app does this for free to start. A CRM would be more than you need.
A sales team and Click-to-WhatsApp ads
Leads arrive from ads and forms, several reps follow up, and you cannot say which ad made last month's sales. That is the CRM's job: owner, stage, follow-up, attribution. AI first replies are included at $39, so you are not paying per token to answer.
Enterprise with Zendesk or Shopify already in place
Meta's Agent Platform connects to those systems. If your team also needs a shared WhatsApp inbox, a pipeline, and sync with Zoho, HubSpot, Odoo or Salesforce, run the CRM on the same number; Meta says the two are designed to work alongside each other.
One rule that applies to both: since 15 January 2026 Meta requires AI on the WhatsApp Business API to be task-specific for the business, not a general-purpose assistant. Go4whatsup's AI answers from your FAQ and product data for that reason.

Book a working demoWhat is Meta Business Agent?
Meta Business Agent is Meta's own AI for business chats on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, launched globally on 3 June 2026. Meta says it answers business-specific questions in the customer's language, recommends products from your catalogue, books appointments, qualifies leads, completes sales and hands off to a human on conditions you set. A separate enterprise Agent Platform connects to third-party systems; Meta named Shopify and Zendesk as examples.
How much does Meta Business Agent cost?
From 1 August 2026 Meta bills the Business Agent at $2 per 1 million tokens, a global rate, and says a typical message can use up to 25,000 tokens, which works out to roughly 4 to 5 cents per message. The rate bundles AI processing and message delivery. Meta also said smaller businesses get the agent through selected WhatsApp Business Premium subscription tiers; those tier prices were not published.
Does Meta Business Agent replace a WhatsApp CRM?
No. The agent answers the customer. A WhatsApp CRM is where a team works the lead after the answer: one shared number with an owner on each chat, pipeline stages, follow-up templates, which ad produced the sale, and sync with Zoho, HubSpot, Odoo or Salesforce. Meta's own announcement says the Agent Platform is designed to work alongside existing WhatsApp Business Platform integrations rather than replace them.
Can I use Meta Business Agent and Go4whatsup together?
Yes. Go4whatsup runs on the WhatsApp Business Platform on your number, and Meta says the Business Agent Platform is designed to work alongside existing Business Platform integrations. In practice most teams let one AI answer first, either Meta's or Go4whatsup's, and run the inbox, pipeline and attribution in Go4whatsup.
Is a token-based price cheaper than a flat fee?
It depends on volume. At Meta's own guidance of 4 to 5 cents per message, 3,000 AI-handled replies a month is $120 to $150. On Go4whatsup Standard the same 3,000 replies cost $39 plus Meta's per-message Service charges after the first 1,000 free: $77.31 in the UAE, $65.11 in Saudi Arabia, $42.41 in India. Below a few hundred messages a month the gap is small; above it the flat fee wins.
Does Go4whatsup's AI comply with Meta's rule on AI agents?
Since 15 January 2026 Meta requires AI on the WhatsApp Business API to be task-specific for the business rather than a general-purpose assistant. Go4whatsup's AI answers from your FAQ and product data, drafts replies for your agents, and translates; it is not a general assistant.
Which should a small business choose?
If one person answers from one phone and the questions are mostly about hours, stock and prices, Meta's agent on the WhatsApp Business app is enough to start and is free at entry. If more than one person follows up, you run Click-to-WhatsApp ads, or you need to know who owns which lead, a WhatsApp CRM at $39 a month with AI included is the better fit.
What does Go4whatsup cost?
Go4whatsup Standard is $39 per month with unlimited agents, AI replies in 30+ languages, auto-translate in 100+ languages, the shared inbox, pipeline and every integration included. Meta's per-message charges are billed at cost with no markup. A Free Forever plan covers teams of 2.
