WhatsApp Business API pricing from 1 October 2026 — what changed and what it costs you

On 1 October 2026 Meta stopped giving unlimited free customer-service replies. Every WhatsApp Business number now gets 1,000 free Service messages a month; after that each reply is charged. Utility messages inside the 24-hour window are charged too. Here is what that means per message in your country, and an estimator for your own monthly bill.

The 30-second answer

What changed: customer-service replies stopped being unlimited and free. Each number gets 1,000 free Service messages a month, then every reply is billed at your country's Utility rate. Utility templates sent inside the 24-hour window are billable now too.

What did not change: Marketing, Utility and Authentication templates were already per message. The 72-hour free window for chats started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page button stays free. Meta's 7% surcharge still applies to accounts not on MM Lite.

What it costs: for most teams the difference is a few dollars. A 10-agent business sending ~3,050 messages a month pays $53.16 all-in from India, $117.38 from the UAE, $103.64 from Saudi Arabia on Go4whatsup Standard. Run your own numbers →

What the change costs a real support team

A clinic in the UAE answering 2,500 patient chats a month on one number, plus 500 appointment-reminder Utility templates, and no marketing. Before 1 October the Service replies were free. Now:

UAE clinic · 2,500 Service replies + 500 Utility reminders · USD

Service replies — first 1,000 free$0.00
Service replies — 1,500 over the allowance × $0.017898$26.85
Utility reminders — 500 × $0.017898$8.95
Meta platform surcharge — 7% of $35.80$2.51
Platform fee — Go4whatsup Standard, unlimited agents$39.00
All-in monthly total$77.31

The same clinic in Saudi Arabia: $24.40 of Meta messaging + $1.71 surcharge + $39 platform = $65.11. In India: $3.19 + $0.22 + $39 = $42.41. Put your own numbers into the estimator; the Service line is where the new rule bites.

Four ways to keep the new Service charge small

  • Let AI answer the repetitive questions first. Every AI reply is still a Service message, so this does not make replies free — but it stops a human agent sending three messages where one would do. Go4whatsup's AI replies in 30+ languages and hands off to a person when needed.
  • Send Utility templates before the customer asks. An order update or appointment reminder sent proactively is one Utility message. The same information requested by the customer and answered by hand is often two or three Service messages.
  • Use the 72-hour ad window. Chats started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page button are free for 72 hours, not 24. If you run ads, route them to WhatsApp.
  • Check whether MM Lite applies to you. The 7% surcharge is for accounts not on Meta's MM Lite API. Ask us in the demo; eligibility depends on your Meta Business account.

Questions about the 1 October 2026 WhatsApp pricing change

Are WhatsApp Business API customer-service replies still free?

Partly. From 1 October 2026 every WhatsApp Business number gets 1,000 free Service messages per month. After that, each reply inside the 24-hour customer window is charged at the country's Utility rate per message. Before 1 October these replies were free with no cap.

Does the 1,000 free Service messages apply per business or per number?

Per phone number, per month. A business running three WhatsApp numbers has 3,000 free Service messages a month across them.

What does a Service message cost after the free 1,000?

The country's Utility rate per message: $0.017898 in the UAE, $0.012198 in Saudi Arabia, $0.010374 in Meta's Rest of Middle East bucket, $0.001596 (₹0.14) in India, $0.02508 in the UK.

Are Utility templates inside the 24-hour window free?

No. Since 1 October 2026 a Utility template sent inside the 24-hour customer-service window is charged at the Utility rate. Before, it was free.

Did Marketing message prices change on 1 October 2026?

Not as part of this change. Marketing, Utility and Authentication templates were already billed per message. Meta updates country rates periodically; the table on this page reflects the rate card read on 3 October 2026.

Is the Click-to-WhatsApp 72-hour free window still free?

Yes. Conversations opened from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page call-to-action remain free for 72 hours.

What is the 7% Meta surcharge?

A platform surcharge Meta applies to WhatsApp Business API accounts that are not on its MM Lite API. It is calculated on your message spend. Go4whatsup shows it as its own line and adds no markup of its own to Meta's rates.

How much does Go4whatsup cost on top of Meta's charges?

$39 per month for the Standard plan with unlimited agents, the shared team inbox, AI replies and auto-translate included. Meta's per-message charges are passed through at cost. A Free Forever plan covers teams of 2.
