Yes. We migrate existing WhatsApp Business app numbers to the API. The number is detached from the mobile app during migration — you keep the number, your display name, and your business profile, but the mobile app can no longer be used for that number after migration. Typical migration completes within 24–48 hours.
Do I get a dedicated phone number for the WhatsApp Business API?
Each WhatsApp Business API account is tied to one phone number — you can use a new number, port an existing business number, or migrate from the WhatsApp Business app. The number must be able to receive an SMS or voice OTP during setup. After setup, it becomes API-only and cannot be used in the consumer WhatsApp app.
